Dr.Don is a licensed psychologist with a doctorate in clinical psychology. His clinical experience was gained in a variety of settings including residential treatment centers for children and adolescents, a mental health center, the inpatient unit of a hospital and working with incarcerated adolescents. Dr. Don, has also provided substance abuse counseling to adults and adolescents.
Focus of therapy varies by client, situation and the client’s needs. Dr.Don understands that people are unique in their circumstances and, therefore, works to build a collaborative relationship that respects their individuality. His practical, sound and mature judgment is appreciated by his clients, as is his insight into the nature of their challenges.
Dr. Don works effectively with families on a range of issues including marriage enhancement, parenting and unexpected life changes. The feelings of depression and anxiety that can be triggered by life-changes and family problems are areas that he is trained to address.
Dr. Don particularly enjoys working on communication issues with both men and women. He is knowledgeable about differences in the psychological development of men and women and how these may impact their relationships. Although women find him easy to confide in, he is equally effective with men and their issues of growth.
Finally, Dr. Don past work with adolescents enables him to develop rapport even under the most challenging circumstances. He works to help them gain self-esteem, practice adult relationship skills and help them make choices that are in their best interests during a time that can be filled with conflicting pressures and feelings.
Prior to becoming a mental health professional, Dr. Don worked extensively in business management for large corporations. He has also lived and worked a number of years in Africa, Germany and Switzerland. As a result, his background provides him with valuable experience and insights to share with individuals working in corporate settings that desire a corporate coach.
