Dr. Steven Lawhon, Psy. D.

Overview
Dr. Steven Lawhon is a clinical psychologist, licensed in South Carolina and Tennessee. He completed his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology and his clinical training at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is a member of both the American Psychological Association and the Tennessee Psychological Association.

Dr. Lawhon has worked in a variety of settings throughout the Southeast including mental health clinics, correctional facilities, and psychiatric hospitals. He has been in private practice for over twelve years, providing clinical health care and consultation to individuals, couples, families and organizations. One of his areas of expertise is forensic psychology. Dr. Lawhon has consulted with attorneys and the courts on civil and criminal matters, in both State and Federal Courts.

Dr. Lawhon lives in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee. He views life as a journey and believes that each day should be lived to the fullest. Dr. Lawhon relates that, “In life, we will all have positive and negative experiences”. Dr. Lawhon calls the pain and negative experiences “psychological garbage”. He believes that in order to be truly happy and fulfilled, we must get rid of this garbage through a healing of our memories and experiences. Although Dr. Lawhon is traditionally trained, he has learned much from his clients, other practitioners, and from the Native American elders that he has studied with.

On a personal nature, Dr. Lawhon’s interests include ancient and local history, Celtic, Chinese and Native American culture, art, travel, and music of all kinds. Dr. Steven Lawhon has traveled to China, Hong Kong, England, Ireland, and Wales among other places.
