Patricia McMahon, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist (Illinois: 071004775)

Overview
Dr. McMahon believes it is critical to approach issues within the context of an individual as a whole person. This approach assists you identify thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that derail you from meeting life goals. At moments she may encourage you to explore your past to better understand how previous experiences or relationships influence your present life. But the overriding purpose of psychotherapy is for you to discover and explore opportunities for change or acceptance in the present and future. Thus, Dr. McMahon and you will collaborate to better understand what interferes with your happiness, problem solving, or achieving desired goals -- and to pursue changes that will result in more control and direction, or acceptance and sense of grounding in your life.

The journey belongs to you.

Psychotherapy is a personal journey that is directed by and belongs to you. Although Dr. McMahon provides assistance informed by her training and experience, you collaborate with her to set goals, direction, pace and time frames. This collaborative focus is to support you in finding what appears to be elusive or to reclaim what appears to be lost in your life.

Experienced with a wide range of issues -- including anxiety, depression, relationships and sexuality -- Dr. McMahon has provided psychotherapy services since 1988. She has worked with high school, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as individuals engaged in a wide range of careers including physicians, attorneys, trades people, administrative assistants, executive and middle managers, artists and individuals involved in information technology. In addition, she has worked with people varying widely in culture and ethnicity, many of whom have come to the United States from across the world in order to study, work, or live.
