William H. Hoppman, Ph.D.
Licensed Professional Counselor (Pennsylvania: PC001039)

Overview
I have been involved in the field of mental health work for over 30 years, working both in the capacity of a therapist and a supervisor. Although I worked with all diagnostic categories in my years of working in a community mental health setting, the greater part of my therapy work dealt with treating people with anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse and addiction. My work with all types of abuse and trauma survivors led me to seek out treatment approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which could help me facilitate a positive treatment outcome for those who have suffered from abuse and trauma issues. I have been successful using EMDR as an adjunct to the therapeutic process for 11 years. I took my advanced training in EMDR with Dr. Francine Shapiro, the woman from the University of California, who discovered the technique in the late 1980's. From a clinical perspective, EMDR increases both the speed and safety from within which people can process traumatic memories. These people, once victims, of their own historical narratives, can finally emerge with some level of mastery in their lives, because they have now been empowered to find their own unique solutions, to old and frequently recurring problems.

Recently, I have re-committed myself to my previous 25 years of study of Tai Chi and other forms of eastern energy work, by taking up the study of Medical Qi Gong from a master teacher of these eastern forms of energy work. I hope that this new training will be able to deepen my understanding of this work, so as to make it more available to me for further practical application in my clinical practice.
